Oil as Memory: An Ancient Ritual for Modern Bodies

In the Ayurvedic tradition of India, oil bathing—known as Abhyanga—is not categorized as beauty or hygiene.
It is a daily act of nourishment for the nervous system.

Long before synthetic products existed, oil was used as protection, warmth, and memory.
The body recognizes oil not as something foreign, but as something familiar.

Modern life moves quickly. The nervous system rarely rests.
Oil bathing slows the body down—without explanation, without instruction.

It reminds the body how to soften.

At Lovevoo, we return to this wisdom using true cold-extracted extra virgin olive oil—a food-grade oil that speaks the same language as human skin.

Oil bathing is not about transformation.
It is about remembrance.

Part II

Why Extra Virgin Olive Oil Works

Not all oils are equal.

Extra virgin olive oil is uniquely compatible with the human body.
Its fatty acid profile closely resembles the skin’s natural lipid barrier, allowing it to absorb without resistance.

When gently warmed, EVOO becomes fluid, quiet, and deeply penetrative.

For oil bathing, we recommend:

  • Cold-extracted extra virgin olive oil

  • Minimal processing

  • No added fragrance or chemicals

Well-stored olive oil that has passed its best by date—but remains unoxidized—is especially suitable for external ritual use.
It allows the oil to serve the body fully, without waste.

During the Lovevoo Oil Bath, the body does not become oily.
It becomes regulated.

This is nourishment, not coating.

Part III

The Lovevoo Oil Bath Ritual

The ritual itself is simple.

You will need:

  • 100 ml extra virgin olive oil (for an average adult body)

  • A heat-safe container

  • Hot water

Warm the oil gently using a water bath until it reaches a temperature slightly above body warmth.

In a quiet, warm space, apply the oil slowly from head to toe—beginning with the scalp, moving through the face, neck, limbs, torso, and feet.

Massage gently for 15–20 minutes.
There is no rush. No goal.

Rinse with warm water only.
Avoid chemical shampoos, conditioners, and body washes.
Pat dry with a towel.

The skin will not feel greasy.
It will feel settled.

If the hair feels heavy, cleanse only the hair with a natural, chemical-free product.

Oil bathing is not about adding something to the body.
It is about allowing the body to receive.

Closing Note from Lovevoo

It is a quiet inheritance.

we offer the body something it rarely receives in modern life:
uninterrupted care.
